celebrating "fall"
I miss fall. I loooove the first crisp days of fall and pulling sweaters out from the back of the closet. And boots. I love boots. But, we'll get our "fall" in December or so, if it's anything like last year. And I shouldn't complain too much since we spent last weekend at the beach. That was nice =)
But anyway, we're pretending and we're celebrating the season anyway. I bought Aidric and Juliet these candy corn suckers last week, but our photo shoot was delayed due to sickness. We got them out tonight and they loved them. Aidric understood he was allowed to have it for awhile, but then needed to set it aside for after dinner. He did such a great job and even initiated giving it back to me. Juliet was NOT so understanding. Screamed her poor little head off while I pried it out of her sticky little fingers.
After that fun, we came in and made pumpkin muffins. Thanks to my friend Kate for sharing the recipe! Yum!
I'd love to say this was all 100% fun and smiles..but I'm not going to lie. It ended with Juliet pulling on my pant legs crying "mommy, mommy, mommy" while I divided batter into the pan and Aidric asked, "Mommy, why are you not happy?" We really did have fun...but baking with an almost 2 year old and almost 3.5 year old?? It requires a higher patience level than I actually have.

yep, we're all still alive...big update
Yes, I have neglected the blog. I'm sorry! I'm having a really hard time keeping up with life right now! I'm also having a hard time putting pictures on this blog when I loooove the bigger size I can use on my new blog!!
So.....here's a link to a post about the two cutest kiddos ever and their sweet relationship:

And, since I've been such a slacker, here's a quick "update" on what we're up to:
Aidric started preschool last month. It's a co-op, so I work there about 3 times a month. (Juliet goes to the nursery while I work.) He loves school- his favorite things to do there include: painting, puzzles, hanging on the fire truck, playing chase and pileup on the slide/climbing structure, and riding bikes. I love that I get to be there enough to know that these are his favorite things.
I also love that I get to have true 1:1 time with Juliet. Really, the first opportunity we've had for this since she was born! We run errands, go shopping and on Thursdays she has gymnastics class. She is sooo stinking cute in her little leotard and I love watching her following instructions and mimicking the instructor. At this point, it does not appear as though we have the next Mary Lou Retton, but she loves it.
We've been taking advantage of our late start to summer and hitting the beach every weekend it tops 70. Even from the start of this summer to now, the beach is easier and more fun. They love running around in the waves, building sand castles, being buried and of course, our picnic lunches which always include special milky and a special treat.
On another note, Juliet is scheduled for surgery on 10/18. She was diagnosed with VUR last September and has been on daily antibiotic to ward off any urinary tract infections. She had a VCUG a few months ago to see if it has corrected itself, but it unfortunately hadn't improved at all. So, she is having a procedure called a deflux to correct it. Should be very quick and easy. While we're at it and she's already under anesthesia, she is getting ear tubes as well. She's been battling ear infections since she was 12 weeks old. I'm not sure on the exact numbers, but I want to say in the last year, she totaled 10. I know some kids are much worse, but the ENT doc was on the fence about whether or not she needed them and then when she learned Juliet would be under anesthesia anyway, she said there was no justification for NOT putting them in.
So...we had a pre-op appointment on Friday to clear her for the surgery. Sadly, she had vomited the day before and then again later that day. In addition, we learned she has a double ear infection. Ugh! Poor girl! So, although she is scheduled for surgery on the 18th, it won't happen if her stomach bug and ear infections are not 100% cleared up. (update...AS I was typing this last paragraph, I heard Aidric moaning in bed, like he's been doing all night. This one sounded more awake though, and as I neared the stairs to go check on him, I heard the dreaded words, "Mommy, I puked". Ugh. Now two sick kids. Good times.)
These pictures were taken on Thursday. Before either of them were sick. I had them on the bed and was just taking some shots to practice with my flash before I handed over the candy corn shaped suckers for the "real pictures". I literally had just said, "Juliet, look at mommy...do you want your sucker?" When she looked at me...and puked all over herself and the bed. No, she did not get the sucker and yes, the photo shoot has been rescheduled. Her smile here pretty much represents her attitude about being sick...not a single complaint or even acknowledgment that she feels icky. Just play as usual.
